If ever I'm famous, if ever I am interviewed, I hope I am asked "What was your FAVORITE part of having a blog?" My answer will be simple: The Big Box of Booze.

DHL arrived at my office today with a present from Calendarguy and I could not love him more if his name really was Spike. The box contained:

Two (2!) bottles of homemade Sparkling Pomegranate Mead.

Thank you so much, Mr. Guy. I have a pretty good plan for what I'm going to send you in return. You aren't allergic to chihuahuas, are you? Ha ha! I could never give up Wrecks. I'll send you something naughty and embarrassing! No, I would never do that, not after this bounty you sent me. But, uh, I wouldn't open the package in front of your wife or anything. Just in case.

O-M-G! I definitely wasn't expecting this level of acknowledgement. This might result in an actual post from the real "Spike". I was sipping the mead when I read this and I have to tell you it burns when it comes out your nose

. I do expect that Duke will provide some feedback on the beers as they should be nearly impossible to get your hands on in your neck of the woods. Those are all out of my "beer cellar" (read: crawl space under the house) as they are all complex enough beers to age. Perhaps we can work out a deal where we can fly him out here and have him build us a "proper" beer cellar

Maybe not in the beautiful town of Cherry Valley but for those of us in the suburbs of Chicago we can get all but one of the commercial brews for sure. All the Lagunita's brews are available here. I've seen the Sierra Nevada Bigfoot ale (might have a 2000 cellaring in the basement) but not the Harvest one. Watch out for the Brown Sugga, its ~10%.

I live very close to the Bermuda Triangle of good liquor stores. Sam's Wine and Liqours, Binny's Beverage Depot, and Famous Liquors...if you go into the triangle on tasting day you can come out 5 hours later, bewildered and lost.

speaking of cellaring beer...I have Sierra Nevada Celebration Ales from 2000 to present. I finished the last 1999 last year. They get real sedimenty as they age.

Hey...Rockford's 10 minutes from you - the 2nd largest city in Illinois (or is it 3rd?)...don't go all 'we's backwards up here in bufu, yeehaw' on me. Not my fault your city's citizens shun tasty beer.

In fact, there HAS to be a fancy pants beverage place up there, odds would dictate such a place exists somewhere.

I'd pit my Beer Wonderland against your Beermuda Triangle any day of the week. Especially the prices. You can't beat Woodman's liquor prices.

Rockford is walking distance. Our house is very close to the border.

And we are the 3rd largest city, behind Chicago and Aurora. I always thought Peoria had a dog in that fight too, but all of the rankings show it significantly lower than I thought it would be.

hmmm....I dunno. I can regularly get PBR for $13/30 pack and on sale for like $11.50.

According to one of the local stores, the chicago area market (I think that includes you Ma Hickory) is one of the most competitive markets in the country and as a result, we all enjoy cheap alcohol, especially wine, which has a lower markup than other alcoholic beverages (hard liquor has the highest markup)...and there was much rejoicing...

I was thinking that the grand city of Naperville was making a run for a place up there too. Interesting that Aurora is 2nd.

I knew something was coming because he asked for my address, but I had no idea how awesome it would be.

He could have totally surprised me by sending something to a different address he already knew, but I probably would have gotten a restraining order against him and this wouldn't be the sweet and lovely story that it is today. ~wink, wink~
