Resolution to the Tense Staircase Cliffhanger

On Saturday, I mentioned that Duke was tearing out the temporary stairs between the back entrance to the house and the future kitchen and installing the permanent stairs.  I was half right.  He put in the permanent guts of the stairs, but the part that we walk on (hence, the part visible to the camera) is still temporary.  It's even stranger looking than before, actually, because he used scrap boards that are all different lengths and jagged on the ends.  It kind of looks like Tim Burton designed our stairs.

There are fewer stairs, and they are a slightly higher rise.  I barely noticed, even though I criticized the blueprint and said that I'd never like them, no way.

I wish I could explain these photos, but I can't.  In the middle of the afternoon today, Duke ripped up the floor in the future kitchen expansion and disappeared into the crawlspace and did some stuff and then did some more stuff and then put some floor down and then put some of our millions of remnant carpet squares on top of it! 

So now I can walk around without splinters and we don't track our wet footprints covered in sawdust into existing house!

I said to him "It feels so homey in here!" and he looked around at the bare stud interior walls and exposed-insulation exterior walls and just laughed at me like I was on crack.  So I revise my statement to "Okay, it kind of feels like humans are trying to live here."

That's good enough, right?
