Longtime readers will likely remember the day that I live-blogged every little bit of minutiae from one of the greatest days ever - a snow day.
That post had an amazing result, the appearance of a Box o' Booze on my doorstep thanks to a reader not named Spike. (The comments are the best part of that link. I'll never forget Marc telling the Hairy Pretzel that he's cellaring an entire pallet of Old Style.)
So guess what? Tomorrow has already been declared a snow day for me, barring extreme emergency circumstances. And therefore, I declare Snow Day 2009 officially open for shenanigans.
5:00 pm: Stopped at Hilander on way home from work to grab something for dinner. Waited in line behind 20 people buying eggs, bread, and milk. Everyone must crave French toast when it snows.
5:30 pm: Watched cars slide down hill in front of our house. Duke walked out and offered to help. They declined and turned around.
6:15 pm: Finished watching today's episode of As the World Turns. It's official, as of today, ATWT is canceled. The last episode will air September 17th, 2010, and there will be a party at my house that day to watch and cry and get drunk. I already have commitments from people in Indianapolis and Philadelphia, so the rest of you have no excuses.
DuMom broke the very expected news to me first, via voice mail. It was the closest Google Voice has ever come to a correct transcription.
6:30 pm: Published this post and invited all readers and lurkers to come out and say hello in the comments, give us a weather report from your neck of the woods, and stay tuned for whatever I decide to do with my free day. Bring booze.
7:45 pm: Snow depth update using dog as measuring device: Wrecks Armpit Level. Duke doing construction work in garage with small portable heater. I'm watching Friends.
10:00 pm: Went to bed early.
7:45 am: Woke up late. Although I did wake up very briefly about an hour ago, when Duke got up to go to work, let the dog out, and as the dog was trying to jump back into bed with me, his wet little feet slipped on the wood floor and he jumped right into the side of the bed and fell backwards. Poor guy can't catch a break.
8:00 am: Pictures!!
8:15 am: While uploading pictures, got sucked into the internet. Snowmen from Calvin & Hobbes.
9:30 am: Doing the dishes and annoying the dog. For Eva, I'm listening to Gloriana, because I was one of those people who saw the AMAs and thought "Yeah, who IS Gloriana?"
9:45 am: Starting to wrap Christmas presents.
10:45 am: Cleaned living room and dining room and finished wrapping presents. Presents! Under my tree!
Listening to Sugarland's Christmas album, which has several new songs on it rather than just covering the standards. Love that.
10:50 am: Responding to Duke's email about feasibility of building a 25' tall snowman in our backyard.
11:30 am: What the hell? Dishes still aren't done? Even though I wash 3 plates and then wander away every 20 minutes? That system should work! OR. MAYBE. I need a dishwasher for Christmas.
11:40 am: Sniffed every single oil I have in stock in case I decide to pour some of my homemade soy candles this afternoon.
11:42 am: No, I should make jam!!
11:45 am: Hmm. No, candles it is.
1:30 pm: Took a very long, very hot bath, and read almost all of Born to Run.
1:57 pm: Took a work phone call. The only one so far today, which is pretty much a miracle.
2:12 pm: Canceled my sushi date with Boom tonight, which has gotten canceled due to circumstances beyond our control for like 5 weeks in a row, which is kind of hilarious. The Universe clearly sees how much trouble we are going to get into when we're together.
2:19 pm: Forgot that I opened the blinds on every single window facing the street so that I could soak up the blinding snow brightness and winter cheer. Walked into the living room naked.
2:45 pm: Laid down to take a half hour nap. Set an alarm and everything.
4:15 pm: Woke up. Turned alarm off in my sleep, apparently.
4:45 pm: Finished Born to Run. Hopefully this isn't a spoiler, but the final paragraph of the Acknowledgements, about The North Face? Killed.me.dead. I was laughing so hard the dog left the room.
4:57 pm: Wrapped Duke's Christmas present that arrived while I was zonked out. Noticed that my kitchen isn't clean yet. Realized that it's almost 5 pm, and compared to the last Stately Manor Snow Day, this one sucks. When Duke was home, we already had one trip to the bar and a dip in the hot tub under our belts by 4:45. I read a book. God, I'm boring.
7:09 pm: First batch of (fairly strong) vanilla candles poured and chillin' on the counter.
Now trying to decide if next batch will be Sage/Pomegranate or Candy Cane.
7:30 pm: Finished pouring Sage/Pomegranate.
8:35 pm: Just completed my P90x workout for the day. Interestingly enough, this would have been done at 5 am on a normal day, and when given infinite amount of time to get it done, I almost completely forgot about it. Ooops.
Duke is just now arriving home.
9:00 pm: Watched an episode of My Name is Earl and cuddled with Wrecks on the couch.
9:30 pm: Watched Keith Olbermann, which I watch maybe once a month or so, fulfilling my recommended dosage of indignation and bluster.
10:30ish pm: Fell asleep somewhere between Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert.

You need to learn my favorite NoDak weather taunt. My dad uses it on the installers. "You know what they call this weather where I come from? JULY. Now stop whining."
I used to say it to Duke but then he started keeping the thermostat at 58* and I learned to STFU.

I briefly turned the air on today.
I can't wait to see some snowy pictures.

We got lots of rain, yesterday, so much so that The Husband nearly called in to work to go run the swollen creeks in his kayak.
All in all. Blustery. Getting colder.

Here in Columbus: 55 degrees at 7:00 a.m., now 42 at 12:30 p.m., dropping into teens tonight and the winds are blowing mightily. But no snow -- bummer.

You should be jealous. Although NoShowMo is going to kick my ass for stealing her husband.
Again.
Those damn Facebook reunion groups.
